SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
What are the system requirements to run MetabolicPro?
MetabolicPro is a web-based nutrient analysis software program. It is compatible with the following Internet browsers/versions:
- Firefox Version 3 and above (Windows, Macintosh, Linux)
- Internet Explorer Version 7 and above (Windows)
- Google Chrome Version 3 and above (Windows, Macintosh, Linux)
- Safari Version 3 and above (Windows, Macintosh).
How do I know what version of a browser I have?
The browser version is often displayed on the startup screen. However, this startup screen may go away too quickly. If so, you can click on “Help” or “About” from the main menu once the browser is opened. You can also contact the help desk at your institution.
Which browser does GMDI prefer?
The browsers listed above all work equally well. GMDI has no preferred browser.
Does MetabolicPro work on both PCs and Macintosh computers?
Yes. MetabolicPro works on a very wide range of computers, operating systems and work stations. The specific operating system should not make a difference as long one of the above browsers runs on it.
Do we need any plug-ins installed?
There is no added software that you need, e.g. no plug-ins, no Java Virtual Machine, or Flash.
Does MetabolicPro run on mobile devices, such as IPhone?
MetabolicPro is compatible with mobile devices, such as IPhone, but is not optimized for use on a small screen.
Purchasing
What are the purchasing options for MetabolicPro?
You can purchase an initial license and additional licenses. As of July 1, 2024 the fees for a new license will increase to $285 for GMDI members and $400 for non-members. Additional licenses will be $115/year for both members and non-members. Licenses are valid for one year from the date of activation. Renewal licenses may be purchased at the same rates - $285 for GMDI members and $400 for non-members.
What payment options does GMDI accept for the purchase of MetabolicPro?
GMDI will accept most major credit cards, including VISA, and Mastercard. You can also pay by check or money order made payable to GMDI and mailed to PO Box 1462, Hillsborough, NC 27278. It is also possible to pay by wire transfer - contact info@gmdi.org for details.
Is it possible to obtain a demonstration version of MetabolicPro?
Yes. GMDI can give you access to MetabolicPro for a 2-week trial period at no charge. Please contact us at info@gmdi.org for more information.
How are multiple licenses coordinated within a clinic?
When you buy the initial license you will be asked to identify your center’s name. If you purchase additional licenses, you MUST identify that the additional licenses are for the same center. The initial licensee will be the center administrator. Ideally, the center administrator should be a person directly involved with clinical care and who will be using the program or supervising its use (e.g a metabolic dietitian or a clinical nutrition supervisor) rather than a business office administrator who processes the purchase order for the program. The center administrator will be able to add users to the center. This is important because all users within a center will have access to information entered by any user in that center, including patient diet records, My Foods, and My RDA.
Do I need to renew the license each year?
Yes. The license gives you access to the program for one year.
Can I purchase additional licenses later in the year, for example if a new dietitian comes on staff?
Yes, you may purchase additional licenses any time after the purchase of the initial license. However, all licenses for a center expire one year after the purchase date of the initial license for that center.
After I purchase MetabolicPro, how do I access the program?
After your purchase is confirmed (i.e. the credit card charge is captured or a check is received, you will receive an email from GMDI with your license key. This process may take 1-3 business days after payment is received. To activate the license, log onto MetabolicPro.org and click on "activate license". Further instructions regarding activation will be included in the email you receive with your license key.
Renewing
I am a member but can not access the member discount.
Make sure you are logged in as a GMDI member using your GMDI username and password NOT your MetabolicPro username and password.
How do I purchase multiple licenses?
Once you've selected the first license click on Marketplace > Purchase/Renew License to find the option for additional licenses. Don't worry, your initial selection will be saved in your shopping cart.
What is my Center Name?
If this is the first time you are purchasing MetabolicPro, choose your own center name. We suggest that you choose a center name that will be unique to your organization and is easy to remember. If you are renewing MetabolicPro licensed and are unsure about your center name, login to Metabolic Pro. Your username and center name will be displayed in the top right corner. It is important to use the same center name to continue having access to your patient records.
What is my center admin email address?
If this is the first time you are purchasing MetabolicPro, the center administrator is the dietitian who will be managing all the users at your center. If you are renewing MetabolicPro, and do not know your center email address, please contact info@gmdi.org.
HIPAA COMPLIANCE
Is MetabolicPro compliant with the provisions of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)?
GMDI has taken several steps to ensure the privacy and security of health information that is protected under HIPAA:
- Health information is de-identified. Patient names are not used in MetabolicPro. Food record entries and diet analyses that are stored on MetabolicPro cannot be linked to an individual. The following paragraph from the US Department of Health and Human Services website on HIPPA explains:
“De-Identified Health Information. There are no restrictions on the use or disclosure of de-identified health information.14 De-identified health information neither identifies nor provides a reasonable basis to identify an individual. There are two ways to de-identify information; either: (1) a formal determination by a qualified statistician; or (2) the removal of specified identifiers of the individual and of the individual’s relatives, household members, and employers is required, and is adequate only if the covered entity has no actual knowledge that the remaining information could be used to identify the individual.”(http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/understanding/srsummary.html , Accessed 6/6/10)
- MetabolicPro is password protected. Access to your patients’ data is password-restricted to just the individual (for individual licenses) or other users at your clinic (for more than one license at your center).
- A SSL (Security Socket Layer) is in place and ensures that all communication between the user and the server is 2048 bit encrypted.
- Data is stored on a secure virtual dedicated server.
- “Catpcha”, a test to ensure that a response is not generated by a computer, is used if a user requests his/her password be sent. This is designed to prevent fraudulent entry into the system.
- Records are accessible only to users within a center. Users from other centers do not have access to your records. Other users from other centers cannot see your records.
